Review: Run on Red

by Noelle W. Ihli

Released November 18, 2022 from Dynamite Books LLC

Run on Red is so much fun. I stayed up past my bedtime reading it in just over two hours. It was completely addictive.

The short novel follows Olivia and Laura, two undergrads driving up a mountain road on their way to a party. They notice a truck with bright headlights behind them, and start to wonder if they’re being followed.  Of course, things get bad from there.

One of my favourite types of thriller/horror stories is one where I get to put myself in the shoes of the protagonist and ask myself how I’d survive the same situation. Run on Red is full of these scenes, and I loved how well Ihli immersed me in Olivia’s mind. As a reader, I felt like i was part of her decision-making and questioning every choice. I felt her fear and hope in a visceral way.

Run on Red is a great choice if you’re looking for a fast-paced, tightly-written suspense story with great characters.  There are places where it’s a little over-the-top, but that’s all part of the fun.  It was such a perfect palate cleanser between Serious Books.  I could *not* stop reading.
