released June 20, 2023 from Bloomsbury YA
Kalynn Bayron’s You’re Not Supposed to Die Tonight is set at a horror-themed camp, where campers pay to be scared and even kidnapped. Charity, our heroine, is the camp manager and has the honour of playing the final girl in the horror games at Camp Mirror Lake.
I’ve always wanted to visit one of these camps…it sounds so fun/terrifying! So I was very excited to read a book with this setting. Of course, in the novel, the creepy events start to veer from the script and the murders become real.
The setting is delightfully creepy and the YA horror vibes in this one are so fun and spooky. It’s a light, quick read that seemed like a fairly standard but enjoyable young adult slasher until the last two scenes. The ending really surprised me and made me extra love the book.
Also, I loved the accompanying Camp Mirror Lake website!
