Suffer the Darkness is a creepy little novella about a woman whose daughter goes missing in the woods.  A year later, Molly returns…but is she really the same girl?

The opening is wonderfully eerie and I listened to this book in one go, totally hooked.  I loved the mix of folk horror and possession, and there are some very tense scenes.

One thing that didn’t work for me is that Kae, the mother, is frustrating at times, and some of her choices didn’t make sense.  Suffer the Darkness focuses on atmosphere and plot rather than character development, and once I accepted thqt, I really enjoyed it.

Jennifer Pickens’ narration is great — she’s engaging without overacting and keeps the book nice and creepy.
